Since childhood, I often daydreamed about different career paths I could embark on. I imagined the different versions of my adult self in the respective fields and the wonderful people I’d meet. I never felt strongly about an occupation to the ever-persistent question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?”. Instead, my consistent answer was,
“I’m not sure, but I want to help people.”
As the years passed, I found myself pursuing endeavors that satisfied this desire. I went to school to eventually become a social worker. I was a student in and out of the classroom. I became a learner of subjects I didn’t even know piqued my interest!
I stumbled upon software engineering as a means to build and create something in the digital space. But I had difficulty feeling like I was serving my ultimate goal.
Software engineering paved the way for me to explore other careers in tech that were way more my style. I eventually discovered User Experience Design, and the rest was history. I found joy in combining my two most significant interests- people and technology. I was making informed and intentional design decisions revolving around users every step of the way.
Through User Experience Design, I realized-
I can be my best self because it combines my love of tech and my empathy for people.
