Overview
In an effort to provide users more alternatives for exploration on the mobile app, The Green Book Project got to brainstorming different ways to achieve this goal. While there were many great ideas, one I will share today is the feature to allow users to discover new and local businesses in their area- the Discovery Screen.

What's The Green Book Project?
A crowd-sourced review app that helps users from marginalized groups (BIPOC, LGBTQ+, folks with cognitive and physical disabilities, etc) find welcoming and inclusive businesses. Think Yelp but with an inclusive lens! Its primary focus is helping folks from these communities (and allies!) discover spaces to frequent and/or avoid.
Problem at Hand
While utilizing the app, the users were interested in another meaningful feature in the mobile application. Users wanted the option to uncover new and local businesses in their area.
Design Process
The Results Show:
As a consequence of this feature users were able to discover local businesses like never before! During user interviews the Discovery feature was mentioned 33% of the time when asked how they come across new businesses.
What did I learn from this?
While designing for this solution I have a few clear takeaways from my experience. It is so important to triple check your work, especially in a design with different states! Because of the different states and elements I had to be very mindful it all meshed together appropriately.
Another is to be in constant communication with your developer! Because I was always in the talks with the engineer he let me know if something was possible (or impossible) immediately!
